MS Ride to the River

Riding along Broadway Saturday morning

Riding along Broadway Saturday morning

The MS Ride to the River weekend started out Friday evening with great anticipation.  My husband rode for the 10th year and my dad rode for the third time.  Friday evening they enjoyed the expo and bicycle jersey fashion show at the Alamodome.  Saturday morning the sky was clear at our house but raindrops started falling as we drove to the Alamodome.  Despite the rain a large crowd of cyclists were gathered at the start.

My husband reached Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels around 1 pm.  My dad took his time, meeting new people at each rest stop.  He gradually finished the entire 71 mile route.  (Coincidentally he turned 71 years old on Wednesday.)  My son and I drove up to the Schlitterbahn resort Saturday evening with a birthday cake for dad and ate dinner with the riders.  The resort looked like a lot of fun on a dry day with swimming pools, hot tubs, and the river directly below.

Sunday morning I woke to the sound of heavy rain so I wasn’t too surprised to hear that the ride was canceled.  My husband’s dream of riding into the Alamodome with his father-in-law will have to wait until next year.
