Mi Casa Makeover

Mi Casa Makeover filming

I was in the “studio audience” Friday morning for a very joyful unveiling of a KENS TV Great Day SA Mi Casa Makeover home renovation.  Debbie and John Rivera’s house was completely renovated inside and out by sponsors that donated their labor and materials.  New furniture and appliances were also included.    The house’s front yard was landscaped with new grass and native plants that don’t require as much water.  Build SA Green  made sure the home would be energy efficient.

The Riveras live in the house with their two children who are attending local colleges.  In February the Rivera family was surprised with the news that they were the next Mi Casa Makeover winner.  According to the letter they submitted to enter the Mi Casa Makeover contest Debbie inherited the house from her parents.  The family was about to start making needed repairs to the house in 2007 when John suffered a heart attack and a stroke that left him in the hospital for 24 days.  John’s health problems led to him losing his job.   The house repair needs grew even more urgent when the heater and air conditioner in the house stopped working and the Riveras couldn’t afford to make the repairs.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010, is the deadline to apply to be the winner of the next Mi Casa Makeover using this registration form.
