To celebrate our niece’s 7th birthday we enjoyed Willy Wonka this afternoon at The Magik Theatre.  It was a fast-paced enjoyable show that kept the young children around us engrossed .

I have watched the 1971 Gene Wilder version of the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory movie many times and the Magik Theatre’s Willy Wonka character seemed very similar to Wilder, uttering odd phrases and taking the participants on a psychedelic boat ride.  The Oompa-Loompas seemed like an odd group at first, ranging widely in age and height.  But they worked well together and were very entertaining.

The Magik Theatre starts their 2009-10 season October 6 with Miss Nelson is Missing based on a book by Harry Allard.   A 2009-10 Season Ticket Pass is $99 for 36 tickets.  The tickets can be used for any of the shows in the 2009-2010 season.  The Magik Theatre is located at 420 S Alamo Street in Hemisfair Park.  A small parking lot is located next to the theater on Alamo Street.  Additional parking is available during shows in a parking lot at the southeast corner of Durango and S. Alamo Street.
