Very large insects are now on display among the gardens at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

Due to the Labor Day holiday there were many families with children and teens at the Gardens today.  Everyone looked to be having a great time looking at the insects and participating in the many craft activities and learning stations that the Garden had set up.

A special treat today was the Austin Bike Zoo, a group of artists who do bicycle-based theatrical performances.  They brought three large insect-themed bicycle creations to the Botanical Gardens and gave rides around the conservatory area.

The 10 giant insects are designed by David Rogers.  They are made from natural forest materials including dead trees.   The “Big Bugs” exhibit has been traveling around the United States since 1994.  The exhibit will be on display through December 6, 2009.  The Botanical Gardens are open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
