At two busy intersections along Blanco Road new construction is replacing vacant blighted retail buildings. It is nice to see investment in this older area of town.
At the northeast corner of Blanco and Loop 410 a Capital One bank branch is being constructed. A mostly vacant shopping center was demolished to make room for the new construction. The strip center never seemed to recover after a James Avery store moved out. Entering and exiting the center was also difficult. It looks like the bank has moved the driveway for easier access.
About a mile north the San Antonio Flower Company is moving into a new building next door to their current home. To make room for the new flower store two vacant dilapidated buildings were demolished. One building was a former Burger King which closed about 10 years ago. The other building housed a photo developing shop and then a cell phone store. The old flower store building was formerly a gas station.
