(Update: The 2010 Tuba Christmas concert is on December 18. Click here for information.)
The 31st annual Tuba Meister Christmas concert was held at noon on Saturday, December 19th, in the Arneson River Theater on the San Antonio Riverwalk. Approximately 70 tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players entertained the theater audience and boats that sailed past the stage.
The tuba band played familiar Christmas carols. An octet from the professional Tuba Meister band played several special selections. The event was organized by Ray Grim. Lee Hipp, principal tuba for the San Antonio Symphony, conducted the group. All tuba players in the area were invited to participate in the concert. Musicians on stage included middle and high school age players.
After the concert it seemed appropriate to walk to Schilo’s Delicatessan for a German lunch. We enjoyed Schnitzel and a Reuben sandwich. Prices were reasonable (especially for the Riverwalk area) and the staff very friendly.
